Governor Hogan visits new Frederick Douglass mural in Easton, hoping art will educate people

EASTON, Md.- Governor Larry Hogan paid a visit to the new Frederick Douglass mural in Easton.

The mural is in one of the oldest African American neighborhoods and n the same area Frederick Douglass himself once stood.

It was painted by world renowned muralist, Michael Rosato, and features a timeline of Douglass.

The art highlights Douglass’ emphasis on education and advocacy work.

We’re told this recognition by the Governor means a lot and their hope that this mural will make a difference in the community.

“We’re glad that Governor Hogan’s here and sharing this moment with us and we really appreciate him being here today that’s for sure because it take a community to do this,” Chuck Callahan III, President of Talbot County Council, said.

“I’d like for it to educate and inspire people and if does the smallest per tangle of that then I feel like we’ve done pretty great,” Tarence Bailey Sr., a family member of Frederick Douglass, said.

Governor Hogan said hopefully the mural will get more people out to the area and educate them on the legacy and history of Fredrick Douglass.
