DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Division of Public Health has announced that Delaware’s vaccine providers can begin administering booster doses for vaccines made by Moderna and Johnson & Johson to populations that have been recommended.

DPH is also advising that any of the three authorized vaccines can be administered to qualifying individuals as a booster in a “mix and match” approach to the vaccine originally received.

CDC recommendations show that individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for a booster shot six months or more after their initial series as follows:

  • People age 65 and older
  • People age 18 and older who live in long-term care settings
  • People 18 and older who have underlying medical conditions, including but not limited to cancer, diabetes, down syndrome, HIV, pregnancy, organ transplants, and stroke
  • People 18 and older who work or live in high-risk settings, including healthcare workers, teachers and daycare staff, grocery workers, and those in homeless shelters or prisons

Individuals 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are recommended to receive a booster shot two or more months after their initial vaccination. As the CDC’s recommendations allow for mix and match dosing for booster shots, individuals may choose which vaccine to receive as a booster.

Members of the public who are eligible for boosters are recommended to seek vaccines at existing sites, including pharmacies, healthcare providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (for patients), and standing DPH vaccine sites:

  • Blue Hen Corporate Center: 655 S. Bay Road, Dover
  • Georgetown Plaza: 19 Georgetown Plaza, Georgetown
  • Canby Park: 1920 Maryland Avenue, Wilmington
  • University Plaza: 256 Chapman Road, Suite 100, Newark
