SOMERSET CO, MD.-  Somerset County Board of Education announced that masks will be optional for both students and staff this school year.

The Board of Education unanimously voted in favor of the decision tonight.

Now the move contradicts the state masking mandate issued by the state board of education last week.

That mandate will still have to be voted on by a General Assembly committee on September 14th,  after Somerset County has returned to school.
