Search committee formed to find home for Talbot Boys statue
TALBOT CO., Md. – Preserve Talbot History, an organization that has led efforts to educate the public on the historical context of the Talbot Boys statue, has announced the formation of a search committee to keep the statue inside Talbot County.
This committee is made up of citizens focused on finding a location for the moment. As disclosed during Tuesday’s Talbot County Council meeting, the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation “makes clear that the preferred and long-term treatment of monuments is for them to remain where originally placed and cared for in perpetuity.”
PTH President David Montgomery said, “The frustrating part of all this is the fact that we have identified multiple places for the Talbot Boys in just a couple of days. Yet, councilman Frank Divilio said while presenting his resolution that no one wanted it. In addition, Mr. Divilio has told a local TV station that unfortunately, no such option exists locally. What he has told all of us is simply not true.”
Those who sought to preserve the monument are encouraged to share their thoughts on possible locations for the statue. Ideas can be submitted by emailing preservetalbothistory@gmail.com.
