School bus crash leaves one child injured in Milton

MILTON, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a school bus crash that left a child injured Thursday afternoon.

Police said around 3 p.m. a Freightliner school bus, being driven by operated by a 61-year-old female from Harbeson, was traveling westbound on Burton Road and started to turn right.

We’re told the bus driver crossed the roadway entering a grassy roadside and started to turn clockwise.

Officials said the bus traveled some distance before sideswiping a tree, continuing to spin, while starting to overturn.

Police said the Freightliner then struck another tree, continuing to overturn while striking a third tree, and eventually coming to a stop.

There were eight kids from Cape Henlopen School District on the school bus.

One 11-year old was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the bus was cited for inattentive driving and failure to drive at speeds appropriate for conditions.

The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
