New Internal Medicine Residency Program at TidalHealth

SALISBURY, Md. – TidalHealth’s new Internal Medicine Residency Program has earned accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

We’re told the program will start recruiting medical residents for the program in October, and the first class of new physicians will start in July 2022.

Resident doctors have graduated from medical school and earned their medical degree, then train for a specific specialty in a Graduate Medical Education program. TidalHealth’s program specializes in internal medicine, which focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases in adults. Many internal medicine specialists go on to become primary care physicians.

TidalHealth officials say the curriculum of their program is a 4+1 schedule focused on balancing inpatient and outpatient experiences with a healthy work-life balance. The curriculum has been customized to prioritize the value of long-term meaningful relationships between the patient and their physician.

The program’s schedule will promote longitudinal management of patients through uninterrupted rotations in a continuity clinic, allowing residents to have structured, clinical patient-centered experiences in each of the internal medicine subspecialties, ambulatory settings, and inpatient rotation.

Hameem Kawsar, MD, PhD, FACP, program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, says their goal is to recruit highly motivated physicians from diverse backgrounds and with strong clinic knowledge.

“We will mentor each resident to fulfill their career goals successfully,” said Kawsar.
