MJ Day set for Saturday, family to bring awareness to heart disease
GEORGETOWN, Del. – On Saturday, one family is holding a heart disease awareness event after the loss of their seven week old son to hypothermia cardiomyopathy.
We’re told MJ Murray was just seven weeks old when he passed away in his sleep due to this heart condition. The disease is where your heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, and makes it harder to pump blood.
MJ’s family says, there were little to no symptoms but getting a heart ultra-sound as a precaution, could potentially save someone’s life.
So on Saturday the family is hosting an awareness day to gather the community, give away free food, provide fun games for kids and family, and most importantly educate families how to take proper precautions so other families have a better chance of never having to go through this. “It’s something that needs to be checked, and tested as soon as you have your baby because if we could have avoided it man, whatever we would have had to do me and Lesha, we definitely would have did it,” says Mj’s dad, Monte Murray Sr. He adds, “It’s something that’s tough on any family, I know it would be tough on any family so we just want what happened to him to be an eye opener to everybody.”
The event will be held in Georgetown from 12 to 7 p.m.
