Historic Milford building gets artistic makeover, aims to bring unity to community

MILFORD, Del. – If you see something, do something.

That’s what Zach and Marissa King did,  giving the historic Penney Square building a colorful makeover.

“This corner kind of represents Milford and us being here the past 5 years and having businesses here we just really wanted downtown to look nicer and down,” said Co-Creator Zach King.

The Paint The City Project displays a variety of boxes painted by families and local businesses with names and unique, inspiring messages for the community.

“There’s memorials to people that have passed. There’s basic messages like I love Milford, which I think sums up the whole wall but every one has a meaning,” said Zach King.

I’m told the duo is no stranger to community involvement, as they put on many fundraisers throughout the year to lend a helping hand. “Everytime something comes up, no matter how little or how big it is. I’m always the first one to offer us to do a fundraiser. Just because I’m really passionate about this community and everyone in it, said Creator Marissa King.

The duo says the best part is seeing the lasting mark this will have on the community. “As I’m standing out there 12 hours a day getting it painted, people are driving by like screaming out their window saying how great it looks. It’s just awesome to get the respect and appreciation that people have for it,” said Marissa King.

“I think it’s cool that these people who got the opportunity to paint can drive by and look over and see their block and tell their kids in 10 years or friends 5 years down the road ‘That’s mine and this is why I did it’,” Zach King.

Proceeds from the paint project went to USO Delaware to help military families.

The King’s are also businesses owners of EasySpeak Spirits in Milford.  They tell 47ABC they’re no strangers to community involvement as they put on many fundraisers throughout the year.

Families and businesses bought spots on the wall for $50.
