Woodbridge School District Superintendent thinks new mask requirement for schools is the right call

DELAWARE- Tuesday morning, Governor John Carney put in place a new mask mandate for grades K-12 that begins Monday.

47ABC spoke with the Superintendent of the Woodbridge School District, and he said this news of students having to wear masks is not really a surprise, as COVID-19 numbers are starting to spike.

The Woodbridge Superintendent told us that before this decision was made they were going to have a meeting Thursday on what the district would do in terms of masks.

But, with Governor Carney making that choice for schools the Superintendent feels it was the right call.

“It’s just an extra layer, I’m just happy we are going to have every kid back this year, lets start there. If it means that they have to wear a mask to make that happen, then lets do it, I will sign up for that after what we went through last year,” Heath Chasanov, Superintendent of the Woodbridge Public School District, said.

The Superintendent also says that they will have to be extra careful with how the lunch room will operate- because students cant wear masks while eating.

He adds that the school will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
