Somerset Co. Health Dept. tackles low vaccine rate, urging community members to do their part
SOMERSET COUNTY, MD.- Maryland has now reached its 80% vaccination milestone, but counties like Somerset are still struggling to get many community members vaccinated.
Currently, just over 46% of Somerset County’s population has received at least one dose.
Health Officials say fear may be one of the biggest reasons for the low rates in the area.
They also say some could be struggling to find transportation to the pop-up clinics they offer.
Despite this, The Health Department says they’re dedicated to getting as many community members vaccinated as possible.
Plus, they want to stress the benefits of the vaccine for those who are still hesitant. “I can’t stress enough how important it is, especially with the numbers we’re seeing now and how important it is to get vaccinated to protect yourself and your family,” said Public Affairs Specialist Kyleigh Beaver.
“We’re just going to continue to push. We’re going to continue to go out into the community and we’re just going to do everything in our power.”
The Somerset County Health Department will hold a vaccine clinic for University of Maryland Eastern Shore faculty and students on August 30th.
We’re told, this is another step to getting more community members vaccinated as students head back to campus.
The Somerset County Health Department will also be holding a walk-in vaccine clinic open to the public at the Crisfield American Legion on August 26 from 4p.m.-6p.m.
