Sea lice being seen more than usual this season in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH, Del.-  In Rehoboth, sea lice are showing up in waters more than usual.

If you’re unfamiliar, sea lice is a skin irritation caused by small jellyfish larvae being trapped underneath bathing suits.

The sea lice causes people to get very itchy, and can be seen in shallow and deep waters.

Daily Operations Chief of Rehoboth Beach Patrol said when it comes to these sea lice this season it’s been different because for some reason they have been hanging around a lot longer- and more consistently.

“Usually we will have them for a week or two and then they go away but this summer it seems like they have been here for a week or two then another week passes and then they are here for another week or two, so they have been out and about they’ve been all up and down the shore too,” Chief Nico Caceres, Daily Operations Chief of Rehoboth Beach Patrol, said.

We’re told if you have sea lice wash them off as soon as possible and once you get them off the itching will stop.
