Police: Lincoln man assaults officer during probation check
LINCOLN, Del. – A Lincoln man is behind bars after he reportedly assaulted a police officer during a probation check Thursday night.
Just after 11 p.m., members of the Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force, consisting of the Delaware State Police and Delaware Probation and Parole, conducted a probation check on 42-year-old Roberto Cantu at his residence on Cedar Drive in Lincoln. On arrival, officers located Cantu outside of the residence and conducted a search of his person, discovering suspected cocaine.
Officers then tried to take Cantu into custody, at which point a physical struggle ensued, resulting in an officer sustaining a serious injury to his lower extremity. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Cantu was taken into custody and found to be in possession of .64 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with first degree assault: intentionally cause injury to law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held at SCI on a $190,200 cash bond.
