OHS launches campaign ahead of Labor Day weekend
DELAWARE – As residents prepare for Labor Day, highway safety officials are working to ensure people are driving safely. The 2021 Labor day highway safety campaign, ‘Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over,’ is aimed at protecting people from the dangers of impaired driving.
Those with the office of highway safety tells us. in 2019 during the holiday weekend, there were 61 crashes, 25 injuries, and three fatalities. A year later in 2020, we’re told those statistics increased with 76 crashes, 46 injuries, and five fatalities.
Extra law enforcement can be expected on the road way during Labor day weekend, and highway officials are asking everyone to remember that safe driving is important not just on Labor day weekend, but every weekend. Veronica Marshall, the Traffic Safety Outreach Coordinator with the DE Office of Highway and Safety says, “If you see an impaired driver on the road, call law enforcement, everybody has a roll to play and if you see behavior that makes you feel unsafe, one, pull over and get away from the driver but also call law enforcement so they can go and investigate.”
