Felton man arrested after crashing vehicle, assaulting police officers
MILTON, Del. – A Felton man was arrested early Sunday morning after he reportedly wrecked his vehicle and assaulted two Delaware State Police troopers.
A short time before 4 a.m., troopers were called to Coastal Highway and Broadkill Road for a single-vehicle accident with injuries. It was learned that the driver, 23-year-old Dylan Martin, was driving his Chevrolet Silverado on northbound Coastal Highway when he veered off the road and hit a tree with the front center of his truck. A passing motorist found Martin in the vehicle unconscious and called 911.
When EMS arrived on scene, they were able to wake Martin up and load him into an ambulance for medical treatment. As the ambulance was pulling away from the accident scene, Martin became disorderly and began flailing his arms up and down and hit an EMS member in the chest. The ambulance crew then yelled for assistance from troopers at the scene.
A trooper then got into the back of the ambulance and tried to calm Martin down but was not successful due to him actively resisting. The trooper called for backup, and when another trooper got into the back of the ambulance, Martin reportedly kicked the trooper in the chest, causing the trooper to be propelled backward towards the open door.
Multiple law enforcement officers responded to the scene and were able to gain control of Martin, who was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The trooper also sustained minor injuries in the incident.
After being medically cleared, Martin was arrested and charged with second degree assault injured law enforcement officer, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, offensive touching, DUI, disorderly conduct, and traffic related charges. He was issued a $1,600 unsecured bond for the accident and related charged and was released after posting a $3,000 secured bond for the second degree assault and offensive touching on law enforcement charges.
