Delaware teen publishes second book at 15-years-old
DOVER, Del. – Irelynn Farrington is a 15-year-old Delaware student and a published author.
“I started my first book when I was 7, and then throughout school, finished it when I was 11,” Irelynn said. “The first book is the original tale, with the princess being the ruler of the land with the king and queen, the troll kidnapped the unicorn in order to kidnap the princess, and the prince had to save them.”
After publishing her first book when she was just 11-years-old, Irelynn knew she wanted to keep writing.
Fast forward four years, she did just that, publishing her second book, “The Perfect Unicorn: The Aftertale,” in the midst of a global pandemic and virtually learning from home.
“The second book is about three friends who go on adventures together, and they went sailing one day, a wave swept them up, and they were brought over to the land of the perfect unicorn,” she explained.
Irelynn says publishing a book during a global pandemic was certainly no easy feat.
“I worked on it for about a year during the pandemic, but there was a lot of delays, because of the pandemic and such,” she said.
But she says one of the things that makes all of her hard work worth it is knowing that a portion of all sales made goes toward A.I. Dupont’s Oncology ward, a place and cause that Irelynn has been dedicated to helping since she was young.
“When I was a child I found a lot of cases of those suffering from cancer, and it ultimately changed their life for the worse, and I wanted to be a part of the cause to find a cure,” Irelynn said.
Now with the second book on shelves and a third one in the works, she says she wants people of any age to know that you’re never too young to follow your dreams.
“With a lot of hard work and imagination, you too can make your dreams become a reality,” she said.
If you want to find either one of Irelynn’s books, you can find them on Amazon, other online book stores, and in some local bookstores. She says she is writing a third book, but it won’t be related to the Perfect Unicorn series.
