Camden Community Garden facing challenges during pandemic
SALISBURY, Md.- Things have looked a little differently for the Camden Community Garden during the pandemic.
Founder of the garden, Pastor Martin Hutchison, said with the uptick in cases people have been reluctant to help plant the crops.
Adding not as many people are harvesting.
Pastor Hutchison said the need for food is still there during these uncertain times, but the challenge is figuring out how to connect with others to get food into the community’s hands.
“It’s been an interesting strange time, but we have been continuing to do what we do,” Pastor Hutchinson said.
“I think the issue probably is more of a inability to connect with the people who have the need, more than a fear of the virus right now.”
Pastor Hutchison said the opening up of the Newton Street Community Center allowed them to provide summer lunches to kids.
He said the attendance was strong in the beginning, but fizzled out and they ended the initiative early.
