Annual Go-Purple Kick-Off event returns, aims to bring awareness to addiction
SALISBURY, MD.- In Wicomico County — The annual Go-Purple Kick-off event was held today to bring awareness to addiction.
The Tri-County Go Purple Kick-Off was held as the Shorebirds took on the Nationals.
Wicomico County Goes Purple’s mission is to bring awareness to substance abuse and spread education throughout the community.
The campaign is focused on treatment, prevention, and recovery.
With overdoses on the rise locally and nationwide, we’re told it is important for people to know that there are resources out there to help.
Organizers say this was their best event yet, and a big part of that was the three counties coming together for the first time to make an even bigger impact. “Having it as a Tri-County event allowed us to not only reach people in Wicomico County which is what we’ve done in the past, but its also allowed us to pull all our other individuals from our two neighboring counties as well,” said Opioid Coordinator for Wicomico County’s Christina Bowie-Simpson.
“Just to come together and have a bigger night with more resources, education, and awareness. That really is the goal of our project.”
Purple is the color for National Recovery Month, which is in September.
