Traffic stop leads to firearm arrest in Dover
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police have arrested a man on multiple charges following a traffic stop Thursday evening.
Just before 8:30 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the area of Simon Circle and Slaughter Street for a seatbelt violation. During the stop, the passenger in the vehicle reportedly told police he had marijuana on him, leading to a search of the vehicle.
Officers located a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat, and as a result, the driver, 28-year-old Jawan Custis, and the passenger were taken into custody.
Custis was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and possession of ammunition by a person prohibited. He was held at SCI on a $23,000 secured bond.
The passenger was received a civil violation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and also had a capias. He was later released.
