Pulling tractors, making noise, and giving back to the community

SNOW HILL, Md. – A day full of of tractor pulling and making noise, that’s what one organization does and they say it’s more than just having fun it’s about supporting the community. “It’s good to give back to the community, we try to help everybody out everybody out your acts like family so it’s just a good thing to do,” says Larry Midgette, a tractor engineer.

A tradition of tractor pulling in Snow Hill has blossomed into an annual event, bringing friends and families together. Those with the Shore Fun Garden Tractor Pull organization tell 47 ABC, they’ve been doing this for almost a decade. Through this friendly competition of who can pull the tractor the farthest, they’ve made life long friends. “We do stuff off season together, we take little day trips, we go out of the state and pull, it’s more of just everyone getting along something we can all do,” says Kelly Bassett, organization founder.

However, they say it’s more than just making a lot of noise and winning trophies, organizers say it’s about being able to give back to the community. Every year a new organization is chosen to donate money raised at the event, and this year it’s the Make a Wish Foundation. Puller tell us, they’re happy to participate for a great cause. “Family, they support us so we can have this kind of stuff we get to have tractors and all that kind of stuff even during COVID and all that,” says one of the tractor pullers, Tanner Bochenek.

Organizers tell us, they do this once a month and even travel for bigger competitions. After COVID they say there’s no better time than now to gather again and continue to give back. “Now that everyone has their masks off, and everyone’s laughing and having a good time and we have spectators coming out, it’s made a difference,” says Basset. Bochenek adds, “I also want my children and grandchildren to enjoy this while I also do this and they can have a profit of doing it too.”

Event organizers say, even though this is something they do every year they hope to continue for generations to come.

We’re told the Shore Fun Garden Tractor Pull holds monthly tractor pulls in Snow hill from April to November. However, their next big event is August 7th and that’s the blessing of the combines.
