Major league softball all-stars head to regionals, asking for a little help to get there

DELMAR, MD. – This could finally be the year the Delmar Little League Major Softball All-Stars make it to the world series. However, before that they tell 47 ABC, they have to make it past regional’s in Connecticut. “We all just won states, we’re all coming from different regions or districts and it’s going to be crazy,” says Ava Twilley, a team member.

To get there, we’re told they say they have to fundraise, and with just two weeks away, they say their fundraising efforts are in full swing. “I saw these girls win in the minors for states and now they’ve won the major state championship, and they don’t even realize the potential they have,” says a team mom and fundraiser organizer, Nicole Twilley. Another player, Karsyn Shockley adds, “I’m excited because we have the potential to win and I’m super excited to get to spend time with all them.”

They tell us, their biggest fundraising effort is their give send go with a goal of $20,000. However, according to the team  they have a really great chance of returning on donors’ investments. They say they really believe they can win. “We just need to get a little more practice in and then maybe we’ll be like bombing everyone but we don’t know what’s going to be at Connecticut, so we need to be ready for anything,” says team member, Ella Twilley. “The more we’ll work as a team like talking to each other, so just more experience would help us to play better,” says another team member, Abby Campbell.

We’re told during their time competing for districts and states, they scored a total of 75 runs and only gave up three. “I think it’s just tremendous how all of that is coming together and they’re really just out there having fun, I mean they are having fun but they really do have a killer instinct,” says Nicole.

However, team members say for them, softball isn’t just about the crack of a bat and footprints on the diamond, it’s making life long memories with each other. “I think it’s just a great opportunity to spend quality time with your friends and just get the experience,” says team member, Elana Donalds. “It’s kind of more exciting when we’re 12-u because we’re all together and we have more hype people and we can all be together and happy,” adds Ella.

Although they say a win would put Delmar on the map, they’re just appreciative of the opportunity. “If we could just win regional’s, and if we make it to world series, I wouldn’t care about winning as long as we’re there for the experience,” says Ava.

The team is holding a raffle fundraiser and will be auctioning off items such as a wood burning pit, full car detail, a grill, Maryland themed corn hole boards and much more. The drawing will be held after the team’s practice on July 22nd and will also be broadcasted live on their Facebook page.
