Local non-profit pays off mortgage on fallen DSP trooper’s home

DELAWARE – A non-profit raised enough money to pay off the mortgage on a fallen Delaware State Police officer’s home.

Over the weekend, Delaware State Police announced that Tunnel to Towers paid off the mortgage of 19 officers, including DSP’s Corporal Stephen Ballard, in honor of Independence Day. Corporal Ballard was killed in the line of duty back in 2017 when he approached a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. He left behind his wife Louise and their daughter.

We’re told in a private ceremony last week, the organization presented Louise with documents confirming the mortgage held on her home had been completely satisfied. In a statement, Louise said “All I could do was cry tears of joy and appreciation. This was the first and only place we called home since we were only married 18 months before Stephen was killed.”
