City of Milford currently facing staffing shortages, looking to hire qualified applicants
MILFORD, DE. In Milford, the city is currently experiencing a hiring shortage and it’s impacting many of its industries.
Vacancies can be seen in policing, customer service, electricity and power, and more.
Due to staffing issues, residents are seeing delays in many services.
Public Works personnel say that they’re currently working with only 50% of staff, which causes delays with restoring power that’s out or trouble shooting what caused an outage.
Despite this, we’re told they’re committed to finding more ways to get qualified workers. “There’s been recent action taken to adjust wages substantially and its put incentives out to retain people. Cash incentives to retain monthly,” said Director of Public Works for City of Milford’s Michael Svaby.
“They bring our hourly wages into a little bit more of a competitive position with some of the destination employers that some folks have sought and left the city for.”
The city council approved the wages and bonus structure on Monday in an effort to help find more qualified applicants.
