Changing Fates Equine Rescue takes in 35 animals, need help supporting them
LAUREL, Del.- Changing lives, 35 to be exact.
This comes after a Laurel non-profit rescue took in animals from a Felton farm over a month ago.
“Basically the Department of Agriculture contacted us and said there was a cruelty case and they needed us to take 35 animals from this facility and to bring them here,” Meg Searcey, VP of Board at Changing Fates Equine Rescue of Delaware, said.
Changing Fates Equine Rescue of Delaware is touching the hearts of new miniature horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, and a chicken.
We’re told during the investigation they found these animals weren’t getting proper care.
Many coming in with matted manes and poor grooming.
“So, when we got to the facility you can tell that not all those needs were being met at that point in time, you know some of them were not having the shelter that they need,” Searcey said.
But taking care of these animals comes with a hefty price.
And before some of these animals can be adopted, like the stallions, procedures need to take place.
“We cannot adopt them out without gelding them first, it’s about $400 dollars per horse to geld them so its going to be a pretty costly venture that we are going to have to do,” Searcey said.
And some of the animals may be pregnant, which means they’ll need special feed and care.
We’re told right now community support would mean the world.
“There is a need, these animals need us as much as we need them, there’s a lot going on out there right now and they depend on us,” Karen Speake, the President and Founder of Changing Fates Equine Rescue of Delaware, said.
While the investigation is still ongoing, and more care is needed Changing Fates Equine Rescue says they’re just hoping that in the end they go to a forever home.
“I want them to go to a home that they are going to love their people and their going to love that life and their are going to know the love of people for the rest of their life 0 so that they are no longer scared of anything,” Searcey said.
The rescue also told us they are looking for volunteers.
Also, they will be looking for people to adopt these animals.
