Camp Odyssey’s “Mud Madness” returns, tradition lives on
SALISBURY, MD.- “It feels good getting dirty, It feels really good,” said camper Nico Taylor.
All is fair in Mud and War.
Camp Odyssey’s Mud Madness day is back in full effect and campers and staff couldn’t be more excited. “I’m excited to get muddy because it feels good in between my toes,” said Taylor.
Not only did campers enjoy all the fun, some even helped prepare for the annual event. “Well we put out the dirt put the water on it and it dried up. Then we got messy and cleaned it up with some more water,” said camper Abigail Saulitis.
Activities included the fan favorite: The Mud Obstacle Course. Also for campers who aren’t mud friendly, there was a water slide and plenty of pools to splash in.
Staff say it felt good to bring the day back, especially after missing the chance to host it last year. “We’ve got 1st and 2nd graders that have never experienced the mud madness so as you can see they’re jumping in all over with all the activities that we have planned and some of the older kids missed a year of it so now they get to go back and do it again,” said Assistant Camp Director Katie Serenyi.
I’m told, Mud Madness is more than just a day, it’s camp tradition. “We’ve actually had several staff members that have been here since they were campers, so its fun to be a camper and experience this but now some of our counselors just having that memory with the campers we have now its also extra special,” said Serenyi.
Campers want to leave those who haven’t experienced the fun just yet with a word of advice. “Get prepared to get dirty!,” said Saulitis.
Staff say that the return of the event truly felt like a step in the right direction for things feeling a little normal again.
They hope to continue the tradition for many more years to come.
