Bill aims to ensure feral cats in Delaware are taken care of

DELAWARE – Caretakers for feral and stray cats in Delaware will soon have some extra money to help them make sure all cats in the state are cared for and spayed and neutered.

It’s all in an effort to make sure the feral population in the state is under control. House bill 263 addresses just that by allotting more money to the state spay and neuter program.

Local cat caretakers and activists say right now they sometimes have to travel to different counties to get kittens spayed or neutered, and that takes a toll on their finances. But now with this extra money, they’re hoping to bring a free spay and neuter clinic to Sussex County.

Local activists and caretakers say they worked alongside legislators on the bill, advocating for the best ways to help the feral cat population.

Now the bill did pass in the Senate and the House, and it now heads to Governor John Carney’s desk for his signature.
