Weather Tidbits: Earthquake Magnitude

Earthquake magnitude and intensities are discussed in this Weather Tidbits. Magnitude is the size of an earthquake; which are determined by seismometers that pick up vibrations or shakings that travel through the Earth. Magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and a decimal to the tenth column. Magnitude is used in two scales with the Ritcher Scale and a newer scale known as Moment Magnitude Scale; that use logarithims with each number increased tenfold involving energy released.
