Virginia Primary Election Results are in
VIRGINIA — Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to decide who will represent Democrats in Virginia’s gubernatorial race.
The AP has called the race, saying Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has won the Democratic Party’s nomination with 62.3% of the total vote. Today’s victory means he will go on to face GOP political newcomer, Glenn Youngkin in November’s mid-term elections.
And while the race for governor attracted the most attention, Democrats also chose nominees for other statewide offices. Incumbent Mark Herring has won the Democratic nomination in the race for attorney general with 55% of the vote, defeating Norfolk delegate, Jay Jones. Herring will face Republican state Del. Jason Miyares in the November general election.
The race has also been called for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. The AP says state Del. Hala Ayala has won the race.
