Somerset receives pay raises for sheriff’s department

SOMERSET CO. Md. – The Somerset County’s Sheriffs office recently received some major pay raises from the county commissioners.

According to the sheriff’s office, they’ve been working closely with commissioners to get their budget approved. With this financial raise, the county sheriff tells us, they’ll be able to have a pension system for their deputies, pay raises, and anywhere else the extra finances could help.

The department says, they have many young deputies so the money will help retain them longer, and hopefully prevent them from going elsewhere..

Something the sheriff says, is needed after this past year. “They told us early that we’re going to do whatever we can to help you, and it was great working with them,” says Sheriff Ronnie Howard. “We’re fortunate here in Somerset, the residents are extremely supportive of us, that’s a really good feeling, it is.”

Sheriff Howard also tells us, his next goal is to hire additional people which he says he intends to work on in next year’s budget.
