Saints fall in 1A title game to Catoctin
WALDORF, Md- The Saint Michaels baseball team’s magical run ended on Friday afternoon, falling 10-3 to Catoctin in the 1A state championship game.
The Saints trailed 1-0 after one inning, but got that run back in the second. Keegan Murphy would send a shot up the middle– and error on the throw would send Kyle Miller home, tying the game at one thru two innings.
In the third, mistakes began to pile on for St. Mike’s.
A fly ball into shallow right field would be dropped– leaving runners on second and third. Dylan Nicholson stepped to the box for Catoctin and delivered a three-run moonshot to break the tie.
The Saints would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the third– when Owen Baum drove an RBI single up the middle.
In the fourth, more errors would doom St. Michaels. Two more Saints errors would produce three more runs for the Cougars. Catoctin would add another to lead 8-2 after five.
Despite the Saints scoring a final run in the bottom of the seventh, Catoctin would get the final out to cap their title win.
