Police: Oldest tombstones in Del. cemetery stolen

GREENWOOD, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating thefts of tombstones from a Greenwood cemetery.

On Tuesday, troopers responded to St. Johnstown Cemetery for a reported theft of tombstones. It was learned that over the past three weeks, the groundskeeper has discovered tombstones from the 1800s stolen each week, totaling seven or eight tombstones stolen.

We’re told these tombstones were among the oldest in the cemetery.
