Police: Handgun, drugs found during traffic stop in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a Virginia woman on weapons charges following a traffic stop late Saturday night.

At around 11 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the area of River Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for speeding and a stop sign violation. During the stop, contact was made with the male driver and passenger, identified as 23-year-old Kaitlyn Hammond of Sterling, VA. Officers observed a small bag of marijuana in plain view on the center console during the stop, leading to a search of the vehicle.

Additional small bags of marijuana and a handgun were found inside of a purse belonging to Hammond.

Hammond was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. She was later released on her own recognizance.
