Parkside shuts out Kent Island to capture the 2A East Region II title, Rams advance to the Elite Eight
SALISBURY, MD.- In a 1-0 nail biter with Kent Island, the Parkside Rams captured their second straight region title to advance to the Elite Eight on Monday. The remaining eight teams will be reseeded based off of regular season records.
As the rain came down at the Henry S Parker athletic complex, Parkside and Kent Island battled on the turf daimond. After two scoreless innings, it looked like the Rams were finally going to break the scoreless tie. Anthony Sarbanes sent a shot into the center field gap to score a runner from second. After further discussion, the umpires announced the runner didn’t tag third taking the run off the board, ending the inning.
The score remained 0-0 until the bottom of the bottom of the 4th inning, Colby Byer dribbled into a double play but beat the throw out at first to bring Ethan Holland home from third. The Buc’s were able to get a few runners on base, loading the bases in the 6th inning, but just weren’t able to get home in the first six innings. After keeping the Rams off the board in the bottom of the 6th inning, Kent Island set themselves up nicely with a chance at tying or taking the lead in the top of the 7th. Two quick outs (Fly out and a sac bunt) led to a runner on third and second for KI. With the two outs on the board, a pop up to shallow center field was dropped by the short stop and it looked like the game tying run scored from third. The home plate ump immediately called a tag out at second base before the runner touched home plate ending the game. The Rams will await the reseeding of the final eight teams to see who they draw on Monday.
Kent Island finished the season with a 6-5 record, ending the regular season on a 4 game winning streak. The Bucs drew the three seed in the 2A East Region II bracket, earned a first round bye and defeated Queen Annes in the second round of the playoffs.
