Local hospital launches new program tackling mental health gap

BERLIN, MD. One local hospital is expanding its services in hopes of getting more people access to treatment they need.

Atlantic General Hospital launched it’s integrated behavioral health program to reduce obstacles patients face for counseling and other treatment services.

Through telehealth technology, patients can receive care right from their doctor’s office.

Hospital personnel say this will benefit patients who lack transportation, have limited internet access, or those who just feel comfortable in their own primary care office.

“So providing that comfortable environment for them that they consider safe and they know everyone can lead people to ask for help to address the issues,” said Director of Nursing Tina Simmons.

Phase 2 of the program is connected to the launching of the Behavioral Health Crisis Center which will happen early 2022.
