Community coming together to help 9 displaced by Ocean Pines house fire Tuesday

OCEAN PINES, Md.- The Ocean Pines community is rallying around nine people who were displaced, after a fire started by a child destroyed their home Tuesday night.

Lisa Layfield, one of the organizers and a family friend of the residents, said her and another resident created a fundraiser and are collecting items to help the four adults and five children.

Layfield said the family lost everything and once community members heard what happened they immediately stepped up.

“Everyone always steps up and joins and kind of just comes together, whatever the situation may be,” Lisa Layfield, family-friend and one of the organizer’s, said. “In a tragedy like this, the need is so great and we just needed to make sure that whatever they did need they were able to get without feeling concerned.”

We are told for the fundraiser they are around $750 away from hitting their $10,000 goal.

You can go on Lisa Layfield’s Facebook page to see how you can donate money and items.

She said they are looking for a place to store large donated items, like furniture, until the family has a temporary place to stay.

We are told the family is very grateful for all the support they have received.
