Salisbury Men’s Lacrosse soars past CNU; advances to 19th National Title game in program history

SALISBURY, MD After trailing 5-1 in the first five minutes of the game, Salisbury Men’s Lacrosse finished the game on a 17-3 run for the 18-8 win over CNU. The win propels the Gulls to their 19th DIII National title game. It was just over 2 years to the day that Salisbury was in this very game taking on Cabrini. The Gulls fell to the eventual national champs 16-13 in a heart breaker.

Today, SU welcomed in CNU with a shot at the 2021 national title game on the line. The Seagulls faces the Captains 3 times already this season, winning all of the contests but each one a little closer than the one before. The Captains came out like firing in this one. Opening the game up on a 5-1 run midway through the first quarter. Brady Altobello and Dylan Rice each with two goals in the first ten minutes of the game for CNU. After a Seagull timeout, the moment shifted completely. The Gulls ripped off fourteen straight goals. Josh Melton (4) Cross Ferrara (3) Jack Dowd (3) Luke Nestor (1) and Logan Posner (1) all scored in that stretch to give SU the 15-5 lead to start the 4th quarter.

In the fourth, the Captains were able to get back on the board after a 36 minute drought but it just wasn’t enough to make a difference. Salisbury held on for the 18-8 win, their 4th win over CNU this season, to advance to their 19th national title game in program history.

The Gulls will take on RIT this Sunday, the 30th. Game time 4pm at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.
