Gulls hold off a late CNU surge to capture 24th conference title in program history
SALISBURY, MD.- For the 24th time in program history, Salisbury Mens Lacrosse captured the conference title. The Gulls took down Christopher Newport 12-9 for the Coast to Coast conference championship.
The Gulls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind two Griff Moroney goals in the first quarter. CNU countered with a 2-0 run of their own, Brady Atobello and Dylan Rice got the Captains on the board to tie us up at two to start the second quarter. From there, SU went on a 3-1 run to end the half for the 6-3 lead at the break.
Bury looked to be pulling away in the second half, taking a five goal lead with just under fourteen minutes left to play. But, the Captains weren’t going away that easy. CNU rattled off five goals in the fourth to cut the lead to just two with 2:25 to play in regulation. Thats where the magic would run out, the Gull defense stood strong for the final two minutes and the offense added an insurance goal as Salisbury held on for the 12-9 win over CNU to capture the Coast to Coast championship. With the win, the Gulls get an automatic bid in the D3 NCAA tournament.
