Bill tackles creating more paid leave benefits

DELAWARE.- In Delaware, workers could see some added benefits if they need to take medical leave from a job.

Senator Sarah McBride introduced a bill Wednesday ensuring Delaware workers access up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave through a statewide insurance program.

Qualifying events include a serious illness, birth of a new child, or recent military deployment.

The Healthy Delaware Families Act would provide the biggest new employment benefits in Delaware history.

Senator McBride says legislation like this is needed now more than ever. “No one should have to choose between their job and their family. Between their paycheck and their health. It is time take heed to the lessons of this moment and put value into our lives,” said Senator McBride.

If passed, eligible Delaware workers could then receive up to 80% of their average weekly wages.
