Bennett puts up five runs in the 7th, take down Mardela to move to second in the Bayside South
MARDELA SPRINGS, MD.- Behind five runs in the top of the 7th inning, the Bennett Clippers defeated Mardela 9-7 to move to 4-1 on the year. The loss drops the Warriors to 4-2.
On the day that the MPSSAA voted 57-1 to hold a state tournament, we were treated to a top Bayside South matchup in Mardela. The Warriors sitting at 4-1 on the year welcomed in the Bennett who was having one of their best years in a while. The Clippers came out firing, taking a 4-3 leading the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Warriors began their comeback. Four combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings gave Mardela the 7-4 lead headed to the top of the 7th. Bennett kicked the final inning off with a bang. With two on base, Madison Lewis blasted a homer over the right field fence to tie the game up at 7 to start a 5 run inning for the Clippers to retake the 9-7 lead headed to the bottom of the inning. From there, the defense held strong for three outs to give Bennett the 9-7 win over Mardela.
It was a good day on the mound for both pitchers. Mardelas Maddie Donald struck out 9 batters and getting contact on the ball three times at the plate. Sarah Sidell was dealing for Bennett, ten K’s in the circle along with two RBI’s at bat.
