47 ABC receives two regional journalism awards
The Radio Television Digital News Association named 47 ABC as a double 2021 Regional Edward R. Murrow award winner Thursday. The first award was given for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the series aired in 2020 – Breaking The Stigma: Fighting For Acceptance. The series hosted by Senior Evening Anchor Julian Sadur was a follow up to the previous year’s Regional Murrow award-winning special Breaking The Stigma: Just Listen. The second award was given for News Series – called Back To School 2020. Senior Evening Anchor Julian Sadur took a look at students returning to school in many different ways in the middle of a pandemic.
“Local journalists across the country guided Americans through a pandemic, ongoing racial reckoning and a fraught election cycle, despite facing unprecedented operational challenges and an astonishing number of physical attacks during 2020,” said Dan Shelley, RTDNA Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. “The persistence of the regional Murrow Award winners we recognize today is a testament to these journalists’ commitment to their First Amendment duty.”
47 ABC is now under consideration for National Murrow Awards.
The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.
