Weather Tidbits: Tornado Terminology
This Weather Tidbits explains the types of tornado terminology or alerts. They are 3 types of alerts issued with tornadoes: a watch, a warning and an emergency. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. A tornado warning means a tornado is spotted by an observer or indicated by radar. A tornado emergency means severe threat to human life and catastrophic damage; and is issued when a tornado is confirmed visually or by radar. Both a warning and an emergency mean take cover now, while a watch means be prepared.
