Weather Tidbits: Tornado Safety

This Weather Tidbits focuses on how to stay safe during a tornado. The main thing to remember in your home is to avoid windows, doors & outside walls; because once these are blown down, a wind tunnel will be created causing more damage. One of the best places to take covers is either a small closet or bathroom, with no windows. If you seek shelter in the bathroom, a bathtub is an ideal location. While taking cover, don’t forget to cover your head with pillows, mattresses, blankets or helmets but also don’t forget to grab your pets. The safest place in your home if available will be the basement, as its the lowest room in your house. Also, avoid sheltering in a mobile home and vehicle.
