Senior makes petition to address recent delay of the last day of school
WICOMICO COUNTY, Del.- A Wicomico County High School senior created a petition in hopes to end senior year earlier than scheduled.
Katherine Moisan said the Wicomico Board of Education recently delayed the last day of school to June 3rd.
She said this is much later than past years and graduation has also been pushed back from June 6th to June 12th.
Because of changes like this she said students have been stressed out because they haven’t gotten the traditional senior year, and by changing the last day of school it raises more concerns.
“Previously I’ve heard from people that they have family vacations planned and they planned around the original intended dates and we had expectation of what was going to happen, so that’s one of the concerns, another concern is students who are working may not get as many hours for the summer,” Moisan said.
We reached out to the school district and they said quote, “Wicomico County Public Schools recognizes the various obstacles that this senior class has faced, and we are working with our high school principals to consider ways of providing greater flexibility to seniors in their last days of school.”
