Mills’ last second touchdown lifts Parkside over WiHi
Rams take instant classic over rival Tribe
SALISBURY, Md- Parkside senior Jabronte Mills was responsible for both Ram touchdowns, including the game-winner with less than ten seconds to go, as the Rams defeated WiHi 14-7 on Friday night.
The Tribe took a 7-0 lead late in the second quarter off a Darius Foreman 8-yard touchdown run. The Rams would respond with a drive into WiHi’s red zone. After consecutive penalties–Parkside would face 3rd and goal from the 32 yard line with 30 seconds before the half. Mills would throw a jump ball to receiver Travis Waters, who jumped over a defender to come down with the catch and score, to tie the game at 7-7 headed into the half.
The second half featured no scoring until the final minute of regulation. Foreman would go 56-yards for the would be go ahead score, only for it to be called off due to holding. WiHi would punt to Parkside with less than 50 seconds remaining in the game. After a play and a late hit, the Rams would have a shot to win it–inside the 5-yard line with 11 seconds to go.
Mills would take the direct snap off right tackle for the go-ahead score with six seconds remaining in the game.
The win avenges Week 2’s 40-12 loss to WiHi (3-2) and brings Parkside to just one game under .500 (2-3).
