Laurel house fire ruled accidental

LAUREL, Del. – Fire officials say a Laurel house fire caused $175,000 in damages Sunday afternoon.

According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal, the blaze was reported shortly before 1 p.m., in the 30000 block of Seaford Road. Mutual aid fire companies responded to the scene.

Further investigation by fire officials determined that the fire was accidental and was caused by discarded smoking materials igniting nearby combustibles. The house was occupied at the time of the fire, however, all occupants escaped without injury. A firefighter was taken from the scene to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
