Fire destroys home on Easter, community now rallying around them

SALISBURY, Md.- One woman is trying to help a local family pick up the pieces after a house fire on Easter.

We’re told the Kirk family’s shed first caught on fire Sunday evening, with flames eventually making their way to the house.

They were alerted by their 9-year-old neighbor, Paisley Centner.

During the fire, the family lost belongings and are now staying at a hotel.

Community members, like Deborah Ritterson,  are trying to help the family get back on their feet.

She is collecting donations for them and even restaurants are pitching in by donating gift cards.

“All of sudden my phone is exploding with people wanting to help,” Ritterson said. “It breaks your heart, it really has brought out the best even more so in people right now because this could be them.”

So far,  Mogan’s Oyster House,  Deli at Pecan Square,  The Mad Hatter Cafe are just some of the businesses that have donated.

We’re told the family is looking for clothes, a rental home, and food for their pets.
