Centeio stands strong in net, Dover holds on as time expires to down Lake
FELTON, Del.- With 16.6 seconds left on the clock, Dover keeper Jason Centeio stood strong and swatted away two shots as time expired to preserve the Dover Senators 11-10 win over Lake Forest. The Senators improve to 3-4 on the year, the loss drops the Spartans to 2-5.
The Senators jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in this one, with goals by Walee Money and Tyir Trott. From there on, the Spartans got hot. Lake finished the half on a 7-3 run behind a hat trick from Brandon Tice to take a 7-5 lead at the break.
The back and forth action continued in the second half, Dover once again opening on a 2-0 run both goals scored by Zach Brown to tie us up at 7 just five minutes into the half. Aidan Dunn (Lake) and Tyir Trott (Dover) both added goals in the third to make it an 8-8 tie headed to the fourth. Dover looked to have the game in hand as they carried a three goal lead into the final three minutes but the Spartans weren’t going away easily. Tice netted two of his six goals on the day to cut the lead to just one with one minute to play. After a few errors, Lake got one last chance to force overtime with sixteen seconds to play but Dover keeper Jason Centeio blocked every shot that was fired at him in the final ten seconds as the Senators hold on for the 11-10 win over Lake.
The Senators return to action Wednesday when they travel to Bear to take on Caravel (5-1). The Spartans look to end their four game losing skid Wednesday when they host Delmar.
