Affordable bbq comes to the Dover mall

DOVER, Del. – A new BBQ restaurant opened its doors at the Dover mall, and they say they’re surprisingly thriving during the pandemic.

Owners of Top 5 BBQ tells 47 ABC, their business started on a food truck and 2020 was set to be one of their busiest year. However, COVID hit and events they had planned to attend were cancelled.

Owners say, they had a supportive following and were able to be booked for big events like weddings and parties. Their biggest selling point they say is all their meals are only five dollars, which makes them popular and affordable for families during this time.

The owner says, they were still determined to save enough money to open their own restaurant, and after an encounter with the Dover mall manager, they were able to do just that. “When we opened up we we’re not expecting to get all of the support as many people that have come out and supported, it’s been amazing,” says co-owner, Thais Lockett. “Sometimes when you look back, you can’t believe that you’re actually here all the stuff that you’ve went through and it’s like you still made it, it’s just a blessing,” says the other co-owner, Gregory Lockett.

Top 5 BBQ says they will still have their food truck, but are excited to cater to other people within the mall and they hope to bring some good affordable food for the community.

You can visit the restaurant in the Dover mall, and they’re open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
