Ocean Downs hosting first ever Dog Derby

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Kentucky Derby kicks off on Saturday, but here on Delmarva, we’re talking about the dog derby.

It’s the first ever one being hosted by the Ocean Downs Casino, and you can bring your dog dressed to the nines ready to show off their best derby outfits. The dogs will walk in a parade, and judges will pick the best dressed pups and even hand out cash prizes to the winners.

The event kicks off on Saturday at the casino at noon and the best part is that all benefits are going right toward to the Worcester County Humane Society.

Now with the beautiful weather we’ve been seeing, the event is outdoors, but there are still some precautions to keep pet owners safe.

“We’re going to check temperatures, as people are coming in, we’re asking for everyone to wear their masks, we have signage up to let them know, and we have plenty of room to social distance,” Bobbi Jones, with Ocean Downs, said.

No pre registration is necessary for the event, you can just show up tomorrow with your pup dressed to the nines ready to go! The entry fee is ten dollars per dog to walk and five dollars per person to walk.
