Weather Tidbits: Tornado Formation

We dive in this Weather Tidbits, into how a tornado is formed. A tornado forms from a column of rotating air between the surface & upper level winds. An updraft from a thunderstorm is needed; which involves changing wind directions to lift the column vertically. That rotating column of air will build downward, which could lead to 2 things. If the column does not reach the ground, its known as a funnel cloud; however if it does touch down, it officially becomes a tornado.
