Weather Tidbits: Long Range Forecasting

Long range forecasting is explored in this Weather Tidbits. Long range forecasting involves forecasting out a week or more. The forecast at this point is somewhat unreliable; as the forecast could change in different ways over the next couple of days. Remember, that a forecast model is just one solution to many other possibilities. As the event nears, the number of options for a forecast diminishes; thus improving its accuracy. However, a small deviation in the atmosphere even within a few days, could make a big difference to a forecast. This explains why maps or graphics for a snow event, are usually issued within 48 hours of it happening.
